This is the best location in Kent in the predominant South Westerly wind direction. The spot works well up to 2 hours either side of High Water. The beaches in this area are gently shelving so as the tide goes out the walk to / from the sea can become very long. Beware of the sinking mud at low tide!
If you are comfortable riding in slightly offshore winds then in the predominant south-westerly wind the water is very flat and great for speed or learning.
In a South through to South South West direction, Greatstone can also offer good wave riding conditions with long rides. The best swell is often in winter months with > 1 minute wave rides possible.
Note: Dungeness is south of Greatstone
