Goring is a world (or at the very least West Sussex) class kitesurfing, wing foiling and windsurfing spot. Flat at low tide, nice waves/kickers on the push.
This is my ‘hometown’ spot, it’s a friendly and fun place to ride. There’s some really good windsurfers, kiters and wingers here. On a windy day you’ll see some great action out on the water with 100m + rides on the wave possible. Catching waves from the cafe and ending up down by the kiters / jet ski ramp if you’re lucky. Check the video of local rider Sam Latham.
Goring benefits from a local sea breeze effect, in the summer the wind is likely to be stronger than other south coast spots when the wind is in its predominant south westerly direction. You’ll see the clouds ‘building’ over the South Downs, this is a good sign that its going to be a good day.
Wing Foilers tend to park next to Sea Lane Cafe and rig up on the grass or beach. The waves in front of the cafe are the best in the area, on westerlies the rocky outcrop creates very clean sections of water between waves.
Watch out for ‘crab’ rocks at low tide.
Also watch out for the kiters: Lionel & Dangerman in particular 🙂
If you need any advice pop into Worthing Watersports on Alinora Crescent, there’s a listing for the shop on this site.
If you’re not sure about the weather conditions and waiting for things to improve, stand down wind of one of the beach huts with your arms folded and hand firmly in your arm pits.
This will signal for local water persons to come over and talk to you.
