The beach at Mumbles is a great spot for beginners, with its wide expanse of shallow water and well-protected bay . The promenade faces North east.
It’s a tidal spot – where you might have been riding a high water will be bone dry at at low water . The bottom is a mixture of mud / sand & some strewn rock patches. (See tide times below)
Suitable winds – N / NW winds offer flat water as winds cannot create fetch , just be sure to know where you can self rescue to.
E and SE winds will create fetch across swansea bay and therefore bumps and lumps.
S -SSW winds offer you the opportunity to downwind if you have the logistics in place – (around 5-6 km across the bay).
(downwinders across the bay to Swansea are best in South winds ).
Wing foil Riding from mumbles offers great parking and access to the water is by slipways . The promenade offer great viewing . Verdis cafe is on the promenade by the knab rock slipway and Mumbles Yacht Club.
Overall, Mumbles is a great spot for wing foiling, the Gower peninsula is on your doorstep with its variety of beaches, steady winds and beautiful scenery, it’s a great destination for riders of all skill levels. Just be sure to check the tide times before heading out.
